I took him and Liam with me to run some last minute errands for the party - picking up the keys to the Log Cabin, buying some tape, ice, and oyster crackers. And while running these errands Quinn told anyone that would listen that, "Today's my birthday." And they'd ask how old he was and he'd reply, "I'm three. But after my nap I'm going to be four." I'm pretty sure everyone felt sorry for this little boy with a wacked out mom who's got his age figured down to the hour. Yeah. If only they knew.
Now I'm wondering if I should send cupcakes to school with him on Tuesday so they can celebrate his "birthday" or if I should wait 'til the 25th? Of course, if I send them with him on the 25th he might start to claim he's five. He's already asking when he'll be 5.
Anyway - the whole reason I pushed his party up a few weeks was to hopefully get some nice weather so the kids (all 17 of them) could run and play outside the Log Cabin at our town's best park. Yesterday the temperature didn't go above 38 degrees. (Although just 5 days ago it was near 80.) So - that plan didn't work.
But what did work was hiring someone I work with to provide some entertainment for the kids. She had them make snare drums and then led them all in some drumming and singing. The kids LOVED it. I LOVED it. And a lot of the parents there were asking where I found her!
Also - some brave dads took their boys out after dinner to run around for awhile before cake and presents - so being close to the park did pay off - just not for the hour that I had "planned."
Here's a few of my favorite pictures. You can visit my flickr page for the entire set!
To turn a regular tin into a snare drum, you need to string some beads, tape them across the top, and then when you put the lid on and hit it with a stick it rattles - like a snare drum. I was surprised how well Quinn was able to bead. We never do stuff like that at home.

Happy birthday, Quinn! What a most excellent birthday party!
Love the cupcakes. Sounds like it was a blast. As a percussionist myself I can certainly appreciate the snare drum making. Excellent!
Looks like a great day! Liam had the same issue...when his actual birthday came he was VERY confused because we took him out to dinner for that as well. I just taught him the date of his birthday (the real one) and he started to understand.
Cute cupcakes ;-)
Those monkey cupcakes are fabulous! And what a great idea to hire someone you know...that way you don't have to worry that a Tyranasaurus Rex will show up for the entertainment. (Have you seen that commercial...I think it's for At&t.)
