Alright, I'm looking for some help. Any of you wear your babies in a sling? Your older babies?
Target now sells hotslings and since the last sling I had was way too big and uncomfortable I picked two up - two different sizes to try out. And I can't decide which works better. One day I think the smaller one is good and comfortable - the next day it's the bigger one. This has been going on for over a week and I need to decide - so I did what any blogger would do. I took some crappy pictures of myself with the two different sized slings on (and baby). What looks good to any of you? Any opinions? Go small? Go big? or just go home?

Pictured below is Size 3 - which felt good yesterday and Monday.
I really like the way the hotsling feels - it's even got some padding for the babies legs. Just not sure which size to go with. My height/weight puts me in the sizing for either size 2 or size 3 - I love when that happens.
Oh - and it's really hard to take a picture without a flash while holding a baby - sling or no sling.

The first one looks like a more proper fit. The only real thing for it is to walk around the city all day with the kid on your hip and see how you feel. Then join the babywearing swap yahoo group to get rid of the spare. :)
hmmm... first off... I like the pattern on the first one. very cute.
unfortunately, I never used a sling. I tried one once with my first, and it ENGULFED me. I felt like a spaztastic mummy. SO not good.
I used the snugli and kept with it for danny.
SO... admitting my inexperience with teh sling, I think you LOOK more comfortable with the second one. first one he looks all up your armpit and stuff. but again.. i have no idea about that kind of stuff.
I use the Peanut Shell sling, which is similar, and found if the fabric is giving at all (like fleece) then I use the smaller size. For cotton that is fairly rigid, I'd go with the larger size. I agree with Carrie that he appears to be in your armpit. But even if you can attribute that to the awkwardness of taking a picture of baby without flash, it also seems as if the sling is higher up on your shoulder and encroaching on your neck in a way the larger sling isn't. So, yeah, my vote is also for the second option.
Ugh...I am jealous you can get Liam to sit in one of those. With my giant sized baby, there's no way I can do that... At least I can say my arms are as tight as they were when I was doing flags from carrying that boy around.
I think the first one looks better, the second one looks kind of bulky? But maybe that's how it is suppose to be? It just looks like it would be hot--for summer or disney, if that's what your thinking?
I never used a sling either, but size 3 looks more comfortable to me.
I am planning on using this in Disney World - and through the summer. I might not keep either one and order a summery material in the correct size. But what's the right size???`
Here are my thoughts:
If you are committed to this brand of sling, call Customer Service (866-570-1252) and see if they can assist you in making a decision. You can also check to see if the website has information on sizing and how it is supposed to fit.
If you are open to trying other slings, do just that. I use the Peanut Sling around the house and for quick trips out. For all day wearing, I'd recommend the Ergo. The Ergo even comes with a shade so if your little one falls asleep, you can pull a shade over his head to keep him from getting a sunburn.
It's SO hard to tell, but generally I'd go w/ the smaller size, b/c the fabric will stretch a bit, even the stiffer cotton ones.
Personally, I would return and get a Kangaroo Korner or other similar in the UV protective mesh fabric. It blocks most of the rays, so even if kiddo has sunscreen on, you'll be less worried, and you will both be less hot b/c it's breathable mesh.
Kangaroo Korners have 3 or 4 sets of snaps that allow you to adjust the size, thus, you have a 2.5.
Good luck!
I also love the ergo, but you're gonna have to put Liam on your back b/c he's a big boy now, so maybe you want him closer to your front.
Also, if you are at all feeling like you need to support Liam w/ your hand underbottom, then the sling is too big.
Good luck!
Ah, size is an issue. So the Ergo is out because it is as huge and cumbersome as the Baby Bjorn. And I had forgotten that Quinn would have to be on the back, which could get pretty hot down in Florida. There is the stretch factor to consider. But there is also the fact that he will get bigger. I'm intrigued by the Kangaroo Corner. Might have to look into that one for myself. A mom can never have too many slings, right?
You look more comfy in the 3.
Why weren't these things more readily available when my boys were of age? Sigh
