Mike usually goes grocery shopping on Sunday night, but opted to stay home last night, since he could go today. (Why do what you can put off for another day today?) Anyway, as he was getting ready to go I said, "Do you really expect me to stay up until midnight?" And his reply, "Why would you?" Oh yeah. It's New Year's Eve! The only thing I like about this holiday is getting a new calendar and refills for my dayplanner and Mike has it and the next day off of work. I've never been a big fan of New Year's. I think when the kids are older we'll have to make a big deal out of it - invite other friends over - play games while the kids run around and go crazy from being overtired. But for now...it's just like any other day.

Christie asked me how I find time to scrapbook. First let me start by saying all of my scrapbooks are super-simple. I currently have 5 that I'm working on, but two of those are Christmas ones - one Christmas one is filled with cards/pictures from family and friends. That one is super easy - I just put a simple border on the pages and add the cards. The other Christmas one contains all of our Christmas events from getting ready to the actual day and everything in between (meaning all of the crazy parties we go to). But usually I only have 3 scrapbooks going at once. A family album, one for Liam, and one for Quinn. The only way I can keep up is my limiting myself. For Liam's baby album I pre-made pages before he was born, oh wait, no I didn't, but I had all the ideas in my head, and like I said I keep it real simple. Anyway, for his album there are now pre-made pages waiting for stuff like pictures of him sleeping, bathing, playing, and of him with Quinn. These I will complete after his first year is over - I've been saving some pictures - I will use pictures from all the different months of his first year. There are pages completed of me pregnant/ultrasound pics, at the hospital, first day home, baptism, and a family tree layout. Towards the back of the album I have calendar pages. Each month I fill out the calendar with things he did or things we did and add pictures. This is how I can keep up - I develop pictures every month and add them to the calendar pages. I limit myself to how much to include - I can only use a two page spread per month. If there's some really cute pictures, like a series of him laughing or something - I'll make a page or two in the family album and use only one of those pictures in his. I do pretty much the same thing with Quinn's album, only he gets a two-page spread for every two months. So, his I only update every other month. His birthday pictures and other series of pictures (riding his bike, playing in the snow, etc.) go into the family album. Everything else goes into the family album. Except vacations - those go into the vacation album. =) But since we haven't taken a vacation in forever I've been able to keep up with that one easily. Now - how do I find time? I usually make myself work on the albums near the beginning of each new month. Most months it'll take me a good few days of naptimes and some post-bedtimes. It helps that Quinn goes to school in the morning and Liam's nap schedule is more predictable and he'll usually nap for 90 minutes. It also helps that I leave all my stuff out in the basement until the albums are caught up. It was really hard when he was younger and not napping or sleeping ever. But then again, everything was hard then. But even then, I'd lock myself into the basement for a few hours and tell Mike to get me if my boobs were needed for Liam. When I'm working on my albums it's relaxing to me - and I love looking at what I've completed. One of my favorites is Quinn's baby album - it's similiar to what I described for Liam. I'm not that good at all the fancy stuff but I love to journal. To me having completed albums is one of the best things I can do for my boys and their future families. I suppose this little part wouldn't be complete without me mentioning that I Sell Scrapbooking Supplies so part of me also feels it's my job to keep my albums current. If you'd like to take a look at the stuff Creative Memories has to offer to speed up your projects take a look. And then order some! =)

I was out shopping today, because I just can't get enough of this spending money thing and you know what drives me crazy? People talking on their cell phones, only they're not holding one of those old and out of date phones up to their ears, no, they're just talking. I swear they look crazy. One of the mom's at Quinn's preschool was talking on her phone and I thought she was saying something to me, so I started talking to her. Boy did I feel like a dumbass. But really, she was talking about the book she was looking at, I was standing right next to her signing Quinn out - was I supposed to lift her hair off her ear to see that she had something in there????

I think I need to upgrade to a pro account for flicker to do what I want to do. I'm still thinking about that one.

Oh yeah - and Happy New Year.

Cathy,
Thanks for the response. I never would have thought about limiting the pages but it's a great idea. I do have the pages I made together before Henry was born, all but the 4th of July are completed and that just requires some gluing. My first step is probably to wade through the photos we've taken thus far and select the ones I want for the album. This'll have to be one of my resolutions for the year - catch up and maintain the scrapbook and baby journals. (Yes, I bought two.) For now, it's off to make some breakfast. We're getting a late start to the new year because we were up until way after midnight. This kid does not like to go to bed but does fine once he's asleep. Happy new year!
