E.R.

So, Liam has beat Quinn to the ER. Did you know that if you call the doctor because your baby has a temp. above 100 they send you to the ER? I did not know this. A few days ago Liam's temp was 100.4 and then the next day it was 100. So, I called the doc. and was told to go to the hospital.
And it was there that they ran a bunch of tests. Chest Xray, blood work, urine, and started an IV. AN IV on a 9 day old. It was one of the hardest things I had to do. Mike stayed home with
Quinn so there I was in the ER with Liam for 4 hours - and it seemed just as I was able to calm him down they'd come for another test or to draw blood, or something. I basically nursed him for 4 hours - and those of you who have nursed before know how fun that can be. They said they usually also do a spinal tap, but since he was eating/peeing okay they decided not to (thank god).
Most of the tests turned out fine, except his jaundice level went up a lot. So we had to go to his doc. today - where they took more blood (this time out of his heel, not with a needle like last night). His jaundice level went down a little, his fever seems to be on it's way down, and he's been eating and peeing and pooping great. And they want us to go back Friday for more blood work to check his jaundice level.
I learned that they take a fever above 100.3 very seriously in babies under 2 months old. So seriously in fact, that the ER doctor admitted to me that she didn't take her babies temps until they were 3 months old. If the baby felt warm they just watched and waited.
Looking back I wonder if I would have refused all the tests - and then not been able to sleep at all.
The only up side to this is that Liam slept for 5 hours straight last night after we got home (at which point I woke him up to eat) and then he slept again for 4 hours! Much better than the 90 minutes we were getting used to.
After all this I could not imagine having a sick child. A child who is always in the hospital getting treatments and what not. It must be so hard for those parents.
