Those Crazy Green Liberal Neighbors

Another conversation between Mike and I using our blackberry messenger.

Cathy: My dad got us a water barrel.
Cathy: I want to order a compost bin and maybe a clothes line today.
Cathy: Our neighbors are gonna think we're crazy green liberals.
Cathy: Cuz only liberals compost and save water.
Cathy: Not to mention your lawn mower.
Mike: You're funny. Do you think you could ask your dad if he could get another one?
Mike: I want to build solar panels too.

Trying SO Hard NOT to go there.

And here I am. Sort of.

*sigh*

I was trying my best to stay out of political blogs/posts. Sure I'd read some opinions - agree with some, disagree with some, wonder about the facts of some, marvel at how mean spirited some were, and some, would, quite honestly make me sick. Okay.

One post that I read a few weeks ago just made me sick to my stomach. Basically, it was posted just after McCain announced his running mate. It was posted somewhere I don't normally visit - and honestly I can't remember where - it was just a blog I happened upon one evening. And there was this quote (as I remember it), "Palin is so Pro-Life that she has a one-year old daughter with Down's Syndrome." Um. Excuse me? So Pro-life that she decided not to terminate her pregnancy because her child had the possibility of being born with a disability? So Pro-Life that she choose to bring this child into the world and to see what this child could offer her family? That sentence that I read, and in the context of which I read it, made me sick. To me, it appears that the author was disgusted by the fact that a women, in this "day and age" - the day and age where we know more than we've ever known about pregnancy and prenatal care - had to have a baby with Down's Syndrome. And this author was scared that such a person would be elected to office - and I know there's many reasons why many of you are scared of Palin being a V.P., but to site the fact that she is so pro-life that she had a child with Down's Syndrome - well, like I said, it just made me sick. And I've been able to keep my mouth shut (or my fingers quite) for quite awhile. Until someone posted this video on twitter.

And oh my gosh is it a cute video! So cute! The babies! The smiles! Obama looks comfortable with all of them! And as if he's really thinking about their future as he holds each of them! BUT! What's up with this? It's cute, adorable, great, that Obama knows how to hold babies and chidren and clearly cares about each of them, but no way should we elect a v.p. who is, "so pro-life she has a one-year old daughter with Down's Syndrome." And yeah, these two things could be totally unrelated, but I guess I haven't been able to "let go" of the way that post made me feel and seeing this video just stirred up those emotions.

Some of the policital posts I've been reading have been great - well written, researched, etc. However, others have just been down-right nasty, hateful, and totally uncalled for. But whatever. I suppose that's politics.
