Tips and Tricks: Travelling with a Toddler

If you need to travel with a toddler on an airplane - don't.

Ha Ha! Just kidding. sort of.

One of my regrets from our recent vacation to Disney World was not getting a seat for Liam and instead opting to have him sit on my lap. If your child does not fall asleep on you normally, don't expect them to fall asleep on you on an airplane - even if take off is after their normal bedtime. Having an antsy and way over tired toddler trying to climb done, up, over, and around during a flight is tiring. I really think that if I could have buckled him up in a carseat and let it be he would have been fine. Sure, it would have cost a few extra hundred dollars, but really, who would have noticed?

(Oh - and we did have a TON of fun, really. There's just so much to write about I can't figure out where to start - so give me a few days, 'kay???)

When my niece was little we did it both ways - with buying her a seat and without. It came down to everyone (including her) was much happier with her own seat. Maybe the airlines could do a family flight charge for kids under a certain age? Course they still take up a seat I guess.

I'll just take the advice to never travel with a toddler on an airplane!

<sigh> Fine. Take a few days. Don't mind your legions of fans who have been waiting impatiently for updates of your fantastic Disneyland adventure. We can wait, I guess. :) Glad you made it there and back safely, if not a wee bit bruised and sore from having a toddler climb on you the whole time you were in the air.

What Cathy is not telling is that across the aisle Joe fell asleep as we took off... :)
It would be nice if the had a 'child' airfare, but no such luck.

Right. Hey Everyone! Amy's toddler fell asleep RIGHT AWAY. And slept the entire flight there (and back, I'm assuming). Though Amy paid for her "easy flight" with having a 5 and a half hour delay on the way home - I could NOT imagine being stuck in an airport that close to Disney World!

Good luck writing about your trip! I've had no luck writing about mine. It's all just too much you know? I've loved seeing your Flickr pictures though!
