Let's Talk About My Lists, Shall We?

I really like lists - and if you haven't been paying attention (or reading me through some sort of reader) I put up two important lists on each side. See? There's one for the summer down there on the left and one for "whenever" over there on the right. Okay. So the thing I love most about lists is crossing things off. The thing I loathe about lists - is leaving things undone. But alas, since work officially started Monday I figured now would be the time to explain myself regarding my summer list. So here goes. (Yeah yeah - I know, excuses, excuses, blah blah blah)

Take a train ride into the city with the kids
Go to the Shed Aquarium
Have friends over for BBQ okay - so I wrote this one the day after we had some friends of mine from HIGH SCHOOL over - we had so much fun with the small group we thought we should do it with other groups of friends - but, uh, never got to it.
Invite the neighbors over for BBQ and this one is just hard - we see our neighbors almost everyday, our boys play together, but for some reason my shy self cannot invite them over for a BBQ. What the hell is wrong with me?
Go up to Wisconsin Dells
Go to Pirate's Cove with Amy

Get Quinn used to more rides
Go see fireworks with the kids
Catch up on scrapbooks
Organize scrapbooking stuff These last two - I SO wanted to get to this, but SO didn't ever feel like locking myself in the basement. Maybe this would be a better goal for the winter.
Clear out the basement Uh, see previous excuse.
Clean my room I DID clean my room. Once. And before I could cross this off it's a mess again. And by room I mean our bedroom. And my mess I mean there's a path from the door to my bed. I blame this on the small house syndrome.
Visit the zoo at least 2 1 more times Haven't gone again, but trust me, I will be taking the boys at some point this fall - just waiting for nice weather and most of the kids to be at school.
Visit Morton Arboretum again
Go to a Cubs/Cards Game with Jennifer
More trips to the library Eh - just didn't feel like going anymore.
More trips to the sprinkler park Quinn decided he now hates the sprinkler park. It could have something to do with that Big Kid who was there last time pretending to be a dragon. But really, the kid wasn't being mean, but I think Quinn was just a little nervous about it. (The kid never went up to Quinn to chase him or anything - just was playing with two other older boys.)
Get in the routine of going to the gym Alright, this one just bothers me. I WANT to go to the gym. I really do. I gained like 10 pounds this summer. I actual enjoy working out (especially turbokick classes). BUT, Liam is making this very difficult. The nursery is open 9am - noon. Liam naps 9am-11am, then eats. Which leaves very little time. By the time Mike gets home I don't want to go. I tried about 3 or 4 times to go with the boys at 9, thinking I'll just get rid of that damn morning nap. But the nursery worker came to get me each time after 30 minutes because Liam was STILL crying. So this goal - is getting moved to the other side. Just trying to figure it all out now with work.
Go through old baby toys and clothes *sigh* I did pack up some of the toys - in a box - and now it's in the basement. I'm having no luck on the next goal, which totally messes up this one.
Decide to save or get rid of them *sigh* I swear every time I think, "this is perfect. Me and my boys." I see someone with a little baby (boy or girl) and I think, "oh...just one more. Three can't be that bad, can it?" So I cannot decide. yet.
Wean Liam off the bottle
Get read for work to start again I feel pretty darn ready. Went in 4 times before we actually started and was able to unpack all the boxes from our big "move."
Make locker tags
Make birthday tags
Make "Who's Here?" tags

Make class checklists
Make class lists
Make nametags

Make mail-merge file
Write letters and send to parents

Write postcards and send to kids Yeah. Never got to it. Some years I do it, some years I don't.
Find peace in babysitter decision
Get kids used to the babysitter

So - what was on your summer to do list? I actually feel pretty good with what we've done this summer. We kept ourselves busy, I survived being a Stay at Home Mom for over two months, the kids survived me being a SAHM for over two months, Liam's not using bottles, he's sort of used to the babysitter, we went lots of places - actually if you look at what I did as opposed to what I didn't it seems as though I did almost all of the fun stuff and left all the not so fun stuff for later. Which is, I suppose, how a summer should go...dont' you agree?

I'm not talking about my summer to-do list. It was about 5 tasks long and only 1 got accomplished. I am such a lazy loser.

I tend to hang on the other end of the spectrum. for summer.. I have NO LISTS.

I know... that sounds bad reading it. but we're SO BUSY during the school year with volunteer work, bake sales, school, dance, birthdays, socials, etc etc.. you know.. LIFE. Anyways.. in the summer I like to unplug it all and just go with the wind. (or hot, stale humidity as our case may be)

that's not to say we don't do anything... just that the summer shapes itself.

I'm impressed with all you accomplished, though!

(now if you'll excuse me.. 4th quarter is approaching, and *I* have some lists to make! ;)
