Another Project

So we're having Liam's First Birthday Party in less than a month - holy shit! Yikes - he's turning one! Yikes - we're having people over. Having parties always lights a fire under our asses to finish projects/get things done/clean house. Maybe we should have more kids so we would do this more often. Anyway. I've been working on something to go above our fireplace. What's going up is the following: three frames. One in the center (16x16) that will hold a 12x12 page print and two on each side (12x12) that will hold 8x8 page prints. The one in the center will have various pictures from our house - the front door, mailbox, tulips, windows, the actual house, or something like that. Not sure - haven't started it yet. The two on either side will feature each of our kids. One for Quinn and one for Liam. I've been playing around and want some opinions. I like the black background, but not sure if I want to make all the pictures black and white or leave them in color. Currently our living room (where these are going) houses only black and white snapshots (about 5 collage frames, throughout the room) and one tri-frame with color portraits. So mostly black and white. I might be getting a little sick of all the lack of color and maybe the color pictures show their blue eyes off. Anyway - here's what I've made today. What do you think? Especially regarding Quinn's pictures. Should I stay away from crying pics? Sleeping pics? And just keep with the happy faces? I'm only going to print one of Quinn and one of Liam - I just played around a bit more with Quinn's pictures. And do you think I should make them all black and white??? Opinions please. (Oh, and yes, I used this software again. I'm really starting to love it and it does work with Macs if you have Paralles but you can also us VMware Fusion. Whatever that means - I just copied the answer from a friend of mine.)

I love all of them. I think that crying/sleeping/laughing pics are great cause it truly captures ALL of him.

I love a crying picture and sleeping shot.. but for a family room... I personally would want happy.

I like the second one better. both are CUTE.. but for above the fireplace, I would have warmth and love and good times.

what about having the pictures in BW and the background be a solid color? great way to add color tot he room without taking away teh timeless feel of the pictures?

just throwing out ideas.

Whatever you do, keep them in color. It would be a shame to not show off those blue eyes.

Well, everybody already said what I wanted to say.

So: I'm a fan of all kinds of pictures. Smiling, crying, whatever. It's more real.
And I totall vote for color because of those gorgeous blue eyes. OMG. Unless you can make them B&W & then reverse it for the eyes and make them stand out blue.

Those look great. I don't think you have to stick with happy pictures - expressive pictures are great, though. Expressive and also sleeping pictures, which usually are just the most adorable, aren't they?

And the black looks great. Have you already purchased the frames? What color will those be?

We used to have black and white pictures of our wedding in our living room but after Henry was born, I switched those out with some color shots of our newest family member and it was like giving the wall a makeover. I would stick with color, especially since you are feeling the black and white is a little tired.

The frames are Mahogany with white mats.

They almost look black.

I think I'm sticking with the color pics. And have been playing around more. Took out the crying pic and added a different smiley one - changed some (or maybe all) of Liams - added a sleeping pic to his as well. I think I *might* be happy with what I've got. Maybe. I'll post pics later tonight or tomorrow night...
Thanks for weighing in. And if you have more ideas feel free to share!
