I was in Kentucky with Quinn this weekend for my cousin's wedding. He was crabby. But here's a list of excuses why:
1. He misses his daddy who left Wed. for Germany.
2. He hasn't been feeling well. (Fever Tues. - Thurs.)
3. It looks like his gums are sore.
4. He has a rash all over his chest, back, arms, and butt. (I'm calling the doc. in the am)
5. He was in a car for 8 hours on Friday (and again on Sunday).
6. He's hot.
7. He's tired.
8. He hasn't poop all day!
9. He's a little confused by all these people with funny accents talking to him.
10. He's a toddler.
All in all it wasn't horrible. But I felt like a bad mom - first for taking him when he really wasn't feeling 100%. Second, I didn't pack his soap because I wasn't planning on bathing him there - but after his rash started I want to give him a bath, but not with the hotel soap, so he just got a water bath. However, I did do a good job packing toys and things for the VERY long car ride. And he's not really a car sleeper. I'd say out of the 16 hours in the car this weekend he slept for a total of 6. While I was driving down I drove through a terrible terrible storm and he slept that entire time - thankfully. It was one of those storms when you just follow the lights in front of you and when they go out of site you follow the line. I became close friends with the SUV in front of us with their flashers on. How nice! It's as though in situations like that everyone on the road works together for one common goal...to get out of the storm. The person in front of you knows you're using him/her as a guide and you know the person behind you is using you and nobody tries to cut you off or ride your tail, because we're all driving with white knuckles and clenched teeth. It was pouring and so windy a branch fell and hit the car - that scared the crap out of me. (And my mom and my dad) And I also did a great job getting him to nap and sleep through the night in the hotel. (Although all I did was put him to bed like normal and he slept! Thank God he slept!)
I will say this was the longest and hardest weekend as a mom that I've had in a long time. And the test continues this week, but I'm on my own turf and will succeed with flying colors, I'm sure.
