Made In America

Okay, so in my last post I said I lost a post that went on and on about our experience buying Mike's new truck. Basically, it took a long time, and Quinn was so good the whole time. The experience in the waiting room was interesting (I waited there while Mike was test driving some trucks). There were 3 men there, each a little different: one clearly a white collar worker, one clearly a blue, and the other really didn't look like he worked at all that day. Anyhow, the entire time (about 30 or so minutes) NONE of them made eye contact with me or Quinn. Now, had I been at a doc. office or somewhere with some women waiting I'm sure not only would one of them looked and smiled, but probably would have started the basic conversation, "How old is he? He's got such blue eyes!" Blah blah. I did get the blue collar worker to smile a bit while I was chasing and tickling Quinn.

And so, Mike is happy with his American Made Truck. I tried to post earlier that I think it makes a difference on where you work or where people in your family work. Since Mike's company makes parts for Ford, he tends to try and support the American car industry (though, he'll admit Chevy trucks are better). And now that my dad's company is sending their work to China to get done, I'm starting to think of things differently as well. His plant is closing the 18th of this month, oh, that's this Friday. He's still going to have a job, rumor has it, until August, because he needs to stay around to clean up the place and pack up more machines. My mom says he comes home crabby because the guys that are losing their jobs Friday spend the day cursing and in pretty bad moods (go figure). I'm a little worried that one of them might go in with a gun and start shooting (maybe because something like that happened at Mike's work a few years ago), I will feel better once Friday has come and gone.

Sunday I spend a few hours searching and searching for lawn/leaf bags. I went to six stores without being able to find them. Finally, I went to Menards. They had just restocked. I could see how when supplies are low people tend to hoard what they can. I bought 30 bags. That's right, 30. I justify it by thinking next time we want to clean up our yard I won't have to drive around the surrounding towns just to find some leaf bags.
